About
As a long-time free-lance health and medical writer, my award-winning work includes professional and consumer newsletters, magazines, books, and websites. I have written thousands of articles for trade publications for physicians and more than 100 articles for consumer publications. I'm also the author of 15 books for consumers.
My areas of expertise include Tai Chi, Cancer, Fertility, Sports Medicine, Nutrition, Back Pain, Heart Disease, and Osteoporosis.
So how did I get here? As a biology major at Dickinson College, I remember reading some very dry science journal article and thinking, "I can do better than this." I was also the Sports Editor of my college newspaper, the award-winning Dickinsonian, and decided to combine my two talents and get a Master's degree in journalism at the University of Missouri, specializing in science writing. In my last semester of J-school I did an internship at the newspaper syndicate Newspaper Enterprise Association, working as an assistant to the Science Editor, David Hendin.
My first job was as a reporter for The Conserver, a small environmental newspaper on Long Island, and then I moved on to become a staff writer at Medical World News magazine, a McGraw Hill publication. I started writing free-lance health articles for women's magazines, and after 3½ years as a staffer, I left to become a full-time free-lance writer. I have never looked back.

"Every editor should be lucky enough to have a freelance writer like Mark in his or her stable. He has a knack for zeroing in on professional and amateur athletes whose stories would resonate with Heart Insight's readers - and the contacts in the sports industry to deliver the articles he proposed."
